Collecting 150,000 bottles
Ocean Bound Plastics
Ocean Bound Plastics (“OBP”) are plastics collected from pre-qualified land-based sources before they reach and pollute the oceans. Zero Plastics Oceans in Paris, France, is the certifying agency.
Zero Plastic Oceans is a non-governmental organization founded in 2019 that aims to address plastic pollution issues. The organization focuses on abandoned plastic waste, known as Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP), which significantly contributes to ocean pollution. To tackle this problem, Zero Plastic Oceans has developed certifications and labels to ensure proper collection and management of plastic waste[1].
OBP Certification is designed to encourage the removal of Ocean Bound Plastic
from the environment by adding value to its collection and treatment before it
reaches the ocean. OBP is waste that is "at risk of ending up in the ocean." It
generates 80% of plastic marine litter, often without commercial value.
Dignified Collection
Plastic bottles are collected by The Plastics For Change India Foundation, an organization with a vision to empower and dignify waste collectors and to develop the recycling economy in India. Their mission is to provide sustainable opportunities for waste collectors and invest in developing India's recycling economy. Andrew Almack, who serves as an advisor, is the CEO of Plastics for Change Recycling Corporation. He has dedicated his career to reducing poverty and plastic pollution, working in the slums of South America, India, and Indonesia to bolster the informal recycling economy.
